When was Keflex 750 mg approved?
Keflex (cephalexin, USP) 750 mg strength capsules received FDA approval on May 12, 2006. MiddleBrook launched the 750 mg strength in July 2006 with a dedicated sales force of 75 representatives throughout the US.
Does Keflex 750 mg have any AB-rated alternatives?
No, the 750 mg strength capsule does not have any generic substitutes.
What is the dosing guidance for the 750 mg strength?
The 750 mg capsule should be administered such that the daily dose is within 1 to 4 grams per day in divided doses.2
What are the benefits of using the 750 mg capsules?
Keflex 750 mg strength capsules, given twice daily, provide a simpler way to deliver a 1500 mg* total daily dose. It also provides more flexibility to deliver higher doses of cephalexin therapy with fewer capsules per day.
Furthermore, by reducing daily dosing frequency and making dosing easier, Keflex 750 mg capsules could potentially improve patient compliance.
What role, if any, does Keflex have in the treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), particularly community-acquired MRSA?
Unfortunately, MRSA infections are resistant to all beta-lactam antibiotics, including cephalosporins such as cephalexin. Keflex should not be used to treat known MRSA infections. However, Keflex is an excellent choice for the treatment of methicillin-sensitive S. aureus, commonly associated with many uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections. Keflex can be used as first-line therapy for these types of infections and is the most commonly prescribed antibiotic for that reason.1
What is the size of the 750 mg capsules?
Keflex 750 mg capsules are easy to swallow and are no larger than other products that physicians may have experience with, such as Levaquin 750 mg or Augmentin XR. Moreover, it is no larger than many multivitamins that patients may be currently taking.
Do you have a free drug/patient assistance program?
